The Adelaide Festival Centre will host 14 replica marble pieces from Greece, following an initiative by the Hellenic Studies Foundation.
The pieces, amongst them one "Karyatis" will be on display for 100 days during the Adelaide Festival of Arts in 2016 after a successful collaboration between the Greek Governmnet and the Foundation.
The display is part of a joined effort by the #ReturnTheMarbles campaign launched by the Hellenic Studies Foundation and aims at raising awareness to South Australians of the ongoing dispute between Greece and the UK concerning the return of the marbles.
When it was first established back in October 2014, the response it recived in the social media was overwhelming.
Mr Harry Patsouris, one of the Foundation's directors said their Facebook page alone reached almost 70,000 supporters within the year.
There have been many failed attempts and ongoing friction between Greece and the UK for the return of the Parthenon marbles despite the increasing gloabal pressure which in some cases involved Hollywood stars such as George Clooney and Mat Damon.
On December the 9th 2015 following an initiative by the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Kotzias the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution with broad international support on the same areas of concern as covered by the conference of experts at Ancient Olympia. This duly included the reference to the dispute over the Parthenon Marbles.
